Women in the National Guard: Many Positions Available

March 21, 2011 By admin

Believe it or not, some women think they are not cut out to join the National Guard. This is false. In all actuality, there are many positions available for women and men alike. In fact, there are more than 150 types of jobs to choose from. Women may not qualify for them all, but there are quite a few to consider.

If you are a woman interested in joining the National Guard, click here to request more information.

Before we go any further, remember this: you can always call a National Guard recruiter if you are a woman interested in learning more about how you fit in. You will find out soon enough that there are many career fields and jobs to choose from. This is one of the best ways to ease your mind and help you to realize that the National Guard is a great opportunity.

The first thing that any woman must do is learn more about National Guard career fields. They include: infantry, aviation, armor and artillery, military police, medical, transportation, logistics support, mechanical, signal and military intelligence, administrative, engineering, interpreter/translator, and Special Forces.

At this point, you probably realize that joining the National Guard is a great idea. After all, you can get involved with a number of career fields.

But guess what? The career fields listed above are just the start. There are many positions within each one that you need to become familiar with. For instance, saying that you are interested in the administrative field is not good enough. You need to dig deeper and decide on the job that really matches your interests. Just a few examples of administrative jobs include: civil affairs specialist, human resources specialist, administrative specialist, and public affairs broadcast specialist.

Are there jobs in the National Guard not open to women? Unfortunately, the answer to this question is yes. The good thing is that they are few and far between. For example, as you explore infantry jobs you will realize that they are closed to women. This includes positions such as infantryman and indirect fire infantryman.

If there is a particular career path or job that you are interested in, it makes good sense to seek out additional National Guard and military information. This will give you a better idea of what you have to do to qualify, how much training is needed, and how you can get started.

Now, more so than ever before, women are getting involved with all branches of the military including the National Guard. Do not let anybody tell you that this is only a place for men ? they are not right. The National Guard takes great pride in accepting both men and women. There are hundreds of jobs to choose from, one of which is going to be perfect for you.

With many positions available, women are joining the National Guard in large numbers.

    Hi!
I am 28 years old and have an amazing job working for Sysco foods. I also have a 3 year old son and his father is 50% in his life, I have always wanted to join the army since I can remember. With that being said, I want to join but am scared of the 8 year commitment or leaving my son to not have a mother growing up. My reason for joining is I want to help others who can’t help themselves and A lot of people tell me… THAN do charity work… I did… 5 years of working with Autistic children and 3 years of helping to open up a learning detection center with my local hospital and still…something inside me is not fulfilled… I am going to talk to the local recruiter tomorrow BUT would really like a woman’s opinion and more guidance on my decision….. I am doing this because I do not want to wake up 10 years from now and regret not going through with this…. I have so many questions(not to be sexist but I don’t think a man can answer) And this will be the most important decision of my life!!

I am 18 and leaving for college in August. I currently have a recruiter but I don’t really feel that hes going to give me all of the answers I want.I have asthma and am in no way in shape (i’m not overweight but i dont meet the “weight requirement” & I dont think i could meet the other physical requirements).
How would I continue with my college and still go the guard? Also, will my asthma and lack of physical training hinder me in joining?

By the way* im a general engineering major and kindof want to know what kindof things I could do with electrical engineering in the National Guard.

Im 16 and im planning to join when I graduate high school. Im only 4 11″ so does that decrease my chances of being able to join? Because a lot of people keep telling me I cant cause im short but I dont want to give up.

Hello! I am 17 and very much so interested in joining National Guard which I plan to after a year of college (I graduated high school at 16 and plan to attend college for a year at 18). I’ve studied and read information, qualifications, benefits, trade offs, basically everything about National Guard due to my interest. I’ve gotten all the information that I was looking for except a few of them and was wondering if you have the answers. What are the height and weight qualifications? I’m 5’3″ and 190 but am working on losing weight and gaining muscle to pass the physical exam with the military diet and workouts. If I didn’t take the ASVAB in high school, where would I be able to get textbooks and everything else to help me study? Are both women and men treated equally in most career paths available for women? If I join after a year of college, will I attend the same college after MOS and AIT? It would be much appreciated if questions are answered so I could see if I can further my interest in Army National Guard. Thank you so much in advance!
