You Will Ace the ASVAB After You Read This

December 8, 2011 By admin

The ASVAB, also known as the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, is a standardized test that measures strengths and weaknesses to determine the best military job for you. By properly preparing for this test you are bettering your chance of getting into your desired field.

Basic Information

To ace the ASVAB you need to be properly prepared. Here are several details to consider (but first get your military jobs info):

– There are three different versions of the ASVAB including: Student ASVAB, Met-Site ASVAB, and CAT-ASVAB.

– Determine which ASVAB you will be taking, ensuring that you prepare properly.

– Be aware that there are sub-sections of all three tests including: arithmetic reasoning, general science, word knowledge, mathematics knowledge, paragraph comprehension, electronics information, shop information, auto information, assembling objects, and mechanical comprehension.

– Take a practice test online. Just like any standardized test, there are practice exams that can help you better prepare for the real thing.

Five Secrets to Success

1. Understand that each section is different and prepare accordingly. For example, the word knowledge portion consists of 35 items while paragraph comprehension only has 15 items.

2. Get a good night?s sleep. The ASVAB is three hours long. It is important that you feel good, from start to finish, to give yourself the best chance of success.

3. Take all the necessary supplies. This includes: identification, pencils, calculator, and any required test forms.

4. Answer every question. Believe it or not, some people skip over questions if they don?t know the answer ? this is not a habit that you should get into. Since each question is worth the same and you are not penalized for wrong answers, there is no point in skipping questions.

5. Ask your recruiter for advice. This is not to say that your recruiter will tell you what questions to expect and how to answer them. However, you can receive good advice on the basics of the ASVAB as well as where to find the best practice exams.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I fail the ASVAB?

Believe it or not, there is no way to fail this test. Instead, the score you receive simply reflects your knowledge and abilities. You may not score as high as the next person, but this does not mean you have failed the test.

Can I take the ASVAB in Spanish?

This is one of the most common questions. In short, there is no Spanish version of the ASVAB. This test does not exist in any language except English. Since you are required to speak and understand English in the United States Military, it only makes sense that the ASVAB be administered in this language.

Does taking the ASVAB mean that I have to join the military?

Absolutely not ? this does not commit you to enlisting. Instead, this test can help you determine your own aptitude and where you may fit into the military should you decide to enlist. After you take this test, you can again speak with your recruiter to get a better idea of where you stand.

When you ace the ASVAB you have a good chance of landing a job in the military that suits your personal interests.

Another option you may want to watch out for are military scholarships!.
