Sons Of Iraq Aid Coalition Soldiers
The coalition soldiers have been working with the local Iraqi citizens very well, and the amount of cooperation has risen to a level not seen before. Recently, a large weapons cache was surrendered by the Sons of Iraq to soldiers with the 10th Field artillery, 1st Battalion, Battery A. The Sons of Iraq had discovered the weapons by accident, and immediately notified the soldiers and coalition forces of their discovery.
The 789th Ordnance Company EOD arrived and took charge of the weapons at the site, and then transported them a short distance away for destruction. The cache has numerous weaoppns, including 14 mortars, 18 rockets, tank rounds and miscellaneous other weapons and IED explosives.
The Sabbah Nissan Sons of Iraq have been especially successful in finding weapons, and they have been responsible for turning over multiple different weapons caches to the 3 HBCT since they formed their group several months ago. They work to increase the amount of communications and interaction between coalition soldiers and the citizens, and have been a vital link in creating and fostering a level of trust with the Iraqi citizens.
The cache was discovered near Forward Operating Base Hammer. After discovering the cache soldiers worked with the Sons of Iraq to delivery medicine, water and food to people to Najidat, to the southeast of the main city of Baghdad.
