Iraqi Army Stands Against Criminal Activity With Coalition Support
The Iraqi Army has taken a strong stand against criminal activity and lawlessness in the Mahmudiyah region. With strong support from the Coalition soldiers from 101st Airborne, 3rd BCT, 320th Field Artillery, 3rd Battalion the Iraqi Forces is winning the battle against crime.
Brigadier General Ali Jassim Muhammad Hassen Al Frejee commands the 6th Iraqi Army division, 25th brigade, and he is leading his soldiers on daily patrols in the Mahmudiyah city, and outlying areas. They go house to house, and while they remain as friendly as possible to the citizens, it is obvious that they are there in a serious manner, and really mean business.
Lieutenant Colonel William Zemp is the Coalition commander of 3rd battalion, and believes in the efforts of their Iraqi counterparts. “It has meant a complete difference in the lives of the citizens here in Mahmudiyah,” said Colonel Zemp. Because the Iraqi Army has worked hard and become well trained, they are being used very effectively to search and root out any presence of the terrorist insurgents, or members of Al Qaeda that are still lurking,” said Colonel Zemp.

“We are pleased with the actions of the Iraqi Army leadership here, as soon as problem occurs, they are right there to make sure its fixed and doesn’t happen again. When there was some different criminal activity late at night, the Iraqi Army immediately put into effect a curfew,” said Colonel Zemp.
“The criminals expected a restrained, defensive posture. The Iraqi Army totally surprised them, with their can do, go getter attitude the criminals don’t stand a chance,” said Colonel Zemp.
