When a soldier lives in an Army base, they automatically receive both their meals and their housing for free. If they live off base, then the army gives them special money to meet specific needs. Here are four different allowances that the Army gives to the members that live off base to make sure that they can live comfortably while serving in the Armed Forces.
4 – Substance Allowance – This basic allowance is used to pay for food for any soldier that has been authorized to eat food off of the base.
3 – Housing Allowance – This basic allowance is used to pay for housing for any soldier that has been authorized to live off base.
2 – Clothing Allowance – This basic allowance is offered to soldiers in order to help them replace uniform decorations and uniforms when the need comes up.
1 – Cost of Living Allowance – This is a basic allowance that is offered to soldiers who are assigned to a high cost location in the continental United States.
