If you’ve thought about joining the military because of the great military jobs or financial perks, you should keep in mind some truths about the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and National Guard Service. As long as you keep these things in mind, you can join the military and work great military jobs, and start yourself an awesome, possibly lifetime career.
1. Basic training is the hardest thing you’ll probably ever do. Prepare yourself as much as you can by working out intensively leading up to it. If you’re already being hard on yourself–harder that you probably even can imagine–then it won’t be as much of a shock when you start the physical and mental challenge of boot camp.
2. You may not get your choice of military jobs. You might have a wide choice available to you, but as a soldier you’ll be part of the US military machine, and as such you’ll go wherever there’s most need at the time for the benefit of your country. This could be temporary, and you may get your choice later, too.
3. Don’t think that you don’t need to study or be mentally sharp. US soldiers take written tests, too.
4. Act honorable at all times, whether on based, on duty, or not.
