Soldiers Provide Equipment And Materials For School Team
Soldiers who work and patrol in the Jurf as Sahkr area slowly became aware how much the local residents love soccer. There were soccer posters along the walls in the marketplace, there are hardscrabble soccer fields made from empty lots, and children and youth of the area often would play impromptu matches that could become quite heated.
In an effort to show their support the soldiers and troops from the 3rd Infantry division, 4th BCT, 7th Infantry regiment, 3rd Battalion, Company A, 3rd Platoon worked to help provide supplies and uniforms for the secondary school located in the village.
Members of the platoon gave the Jurf Secondary school a number of gifts from the regiment, including a team set of uniforms, enough uniforms for a 16 member team, including a referee uniform and a goalie uniform. The intention of the soldiers was to help motivate the kids, and create some spirit and team pride as well as build ethics and dedication.
The Jurf headmaster was very pleased and accepted the gift willingly. “These are very wonderful, and we will put them to good use on fielding a team, our school thanks you for their provision,” said Yasin, the Jurf school headmaster.
