Washington, D.C.-? The Defense Department and the Pentagon has announced this past week that there will be certain groups of soldiers that will take part in the huge increase of personnel that is expected in Afghanistan in the coming months.
Soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, will be among the first to be part of the expected Afghanistan buildup. Nearly 2,800 soldiers with the 82nd Airborne Division, as well as their equipment, helicopters and other materials will be sent to Afghanistan this spring.
Admiral Mike Mullen is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and he was part of a news conference recently in Kabul, Afghanistan. He spoke about an additional 30,000 soldiers that will likely be part of the much needed boost of boots on the ground in Afghanistan.
There has been a lot of discussion, but it appears to be a number of different sources both political and military that are in agreement regarding more troops in Afghanistan. President Karzai has some concerns about more supervision by the Government of Afghanistan over the US Military troops, but even he is supportive of more US soldiers in Afghanistan.
