Coalition Forces Successes Work Well
The coalition has worked to eradicate Al Qaeda in the region around Kirkuk. The violence has been down about 70 percent and Iraqi forces have been working hard to continue the trend. The commander of the Coalition forces believes that the Al Qaeda presence in the Iraqi region has been virtually eliminated.
The Commander of 1st Brigade, 10th Mountain Division said that as the Iraqi Security situation continues to improve, that the government and the economy are growing stronger. “We have worked hard to eradicate Al Qaeda from this area,” said Army Colonel David Paschal.

Several things have happened that have led to the establishment of an area with Al Qaeda. The sons of Iraq program has become established, the Iraqi Police and Army have grown more professional, the area has partnered with the ePRT reconstruction team working to rebuild, and the Coalition arrived in 2007, in September and worked to kill or capture over 20 high value targets.

Without the actions of the coalition forces none of this would have been possible, but the actions and service of the Sons of Iraq program has also been highly central in the overall success. The Iraqi people slowly have begun to feel more confident, and that has led to more trust and more cooperation.
