Sports Facility Reclaimed And Opened Again
As the situation on the ground in Iraq begins to stabilize, the citizens begin to look for other things to improve the quality of their lives. One of the things that re opened recently was a sports youth club, one that originally was opened in 1957.
With all of the upheaval in the War on Terror, the club fell into disrepair and was closed several years ago. Following the efforts of the soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd BCT, 82nd Airborne, the facility has received a recent face life. Soldiers worked with citizens to clean, paint and repair several areas in the facility. There was a large amount of garbage and debris, but now both the youth and adults of the area can use the club
The club had a grand reopening attended by Iraqi local citizens, Local council leaders, Sheiks, and a variety of local sports team’s representatives. The club will host competitions and practice for soccer, basketball, martial arts teams and other groups. Several leaders in the area were very pleased at the reopening, including Fikrat Kareem, who is the advisory council leader for the Neighborhood Council, and Lieutenant Colonel Yeheya Rasol, local Iraqi Army Commander.
“The reopening of this club is beautiful, and we are happy many citizens attended and came to this event,” said Kikrat Kareem.
