You will work to deal crossing gates, repair sign and gate posts, and assisting to adjust elevation and curvature or tracks under repair. You will work to manage and coordinate railway repair work, and participate in specific railway repair projects. You will supervise and oversee track maintenance repair. Working as an Enlisted US Army Railway repair specialist is a position that is responsible for keeping railway roadbeds, tracks, fences, switches and other railway systems up and running at all times. You will begin with 9 weeks of basic training, where you will learn how to be a US Army Servicemember. You will learn different skills necessary as a new Army enlisted person. You will work in classroom training opportunities, along with simulated battlefield conditions, and learn how to perform as a Railway Repair Maintenance person. You will receive classroom training and time spent on the job out in the field practicing practical aspects of Army Railway repair. The Rails transports supplies and ammunition to Army ports for eventual deployment and shipping overseas. As a senior Railway Enlisted person you may be involved or responsible for personnel training and supervision of other soldiers, and become involved in the planning of Railway repair projects. Skills and abilities you gain as an Army Railway repairer are directly transferable to civilian employment in railway and train company employment. You will advance to a 5 week advanced Railway school, where you will participate in various training.
