Becoming a soldier in the Army Reserve puts you in position to serve your country. For your efforts, you are rewarded in many ways ? including access top of the line health care and insurance. The Army has one of the largest health care networks in the United States. Along with this, they have access to top of the line facilities, technology, and staff. This ensures that you get the treatment you need, when you need it.
Army Reserve Medical Insurance
As of October 1, 2007, members of the Army Reserve may qualify to buy medical insurance coverage under TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS). To qualify, you must be a member of the Selected Reserve. Along with this, you are not eligible if you are currently enrolled in the Federal Employee Health Benefits program.
With TRICARE Reserve Select, you are required to pay a monthly premium. For member only coverage, the monthly payment is $49.62. If you are interested in coverage for your entire family, the monthly cost is $197.65. There are not many civilian employers in today?s day and age that offer high quality medical insurance at such a low cost.
As an Army Reserve soldier there is a chance that you may be called to Active Duty. If this happens and you remain active for more than 30 days, you will be eligible to receive both dental and medical care free of charge.
The TRICARE Dental Program (TDP) is also available. This voluntary program is administered by United Concordia Companies, Inc.
