The Army Patriot Missile Specialist is a technical and highly trained job specialty. The Patriot is a missile that is designed to launch advanced technology missiles at the target, and it is capable of taking out multiple targets at the same time. The missile battery of a Patriot missile station consists of the communications relay group, the power plant, the control station, and up to seven or eight different launching stations. The Operator of the Patriot missile system works directly with the launching Patriot missile stations.
The job responsibilities for the Patriot station launching Operator and enhanced crewmember includes handling ammunition for the Patriot, operating specific launcher electronic patriot missile systems, operating and using the Patriot missile launching system, and placement of the system and Patriot launch system in the field. Working in the Patriot Missile launch system organization requires the candidate to be in good condition as you have to life items that are very heavy and act in strenuous activity for periods of time without a rest break. Besides being in top mental and physical shape, you should have normal color vision because much of the equipment and ammunition for the Patriot missile system is color-coded
To prepare for a job as an Army Patriot Missile Operator you will have to undergo the standard nine weeks of Basic training, where you will learn the same soldiering skills as the rest of your army brethren. Then you will be required to take eleven weeks of Individual Advanced training some of which is in the classroom, and the rest is in the field under drill and simulated combat situations. Skills you will learn during this advanced individual training will be: Current operating strategies, basic Battle strategy, and various artillery tactics, and how to operate various technologies that are unique to the Patriot Missile System. You will learn how to operate various rocket, gun and missile system used by the Patriot.
