Almost no mission will be conducted without first attaining the correct intelligence. This is done to make sure that the troops know what they are doing while they are conducting a mission. It is also done to identify targets and find out what kind of risks may be involved in running missions. The intelligence gathered will either necessitate a mission or will scrub a mission as being too dangerous. This is why the military intelligence officer is so important to the mission of the US Army.
