Head and Cranial Injury Trauma Unit Slated For Bethesda
Funded by private donations, a new Center of Excellence” is to be constructed on the site of the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
While still in the planning stages, the hospital is billed as a Traumatic Brain and Injury Center, and holds promise in assisting victims of trauma and brain damage from various sources. It is slated to be similar in concept to the Center for the Intrepid.
The Center for the Intrepid is a state-of-the-art physical Rehab center located at Brooke
Army Medical Center in Texas. The Center for the Intrepid is brand new, and cost about Forty Million dollars when it opened on January 29th, 2007.a While very similar, the new Center of Excellence is going to be different due to its focus on Trauma and Brain Injuries.
Bill White is the President and CEO of the Intrepid Foundation. This new Center of Excellence could wind up costing somewhere between fifty and seventy million dollars” said Mr. White. This new center is different, it is brain stuff. It is much more significant in scale in terms of what is actually needed” said Mr. White.
Over six hundred thousand donors collected over forty million dollars to build and outfit the Center in Texas. The funding for the new Trauma and Brain Center of Excellence will gain funding from the same donor sources.
Arnold Fisher, the Founder of the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is working closely with members of the Defense Department and other government officials in helping to create the new hospital facilities.
