Iraqi Citizen Exposes Explosives To Iraqi Security Forces
In the past, the interaction between Iraqi citizens and the Iraqi Security Forces was often tepid or filled with suspicion. When Saddam Hussein fell, there was a long period where any organized force from the government was treated with suspicion as people felt it represented Saddam and so they were cautious, even angry.
All this has changed. With the training and the example given by the United States Soldiers working with the coalition, the citizens have learned to trust the ISF forces, and slowly the relationship has grown into a positive one.
An Iraqi citizen approached members of the Iraqi Army, and led Iraqi Army scouts to a large stash of explosives and weapons located near Numaniyah, Iraq. They in turn took members of the Coalition EOD squad to the site, and handed the weapons over to Coalition forces. More than 60 high explosive 100mm artillery shells, 1,300 anti aircraft 57mm shells, as well as a number of hazardous large bore shells.
EOD explosives personnel took the munitions to a safety zone outside FOB Delta and destroyed them.

The explosives were destroyed by US Navy explosives personnel. The munitions were discovered at an older site, one that had been abandoned when insurgents were chased from the City. The way they were hidden tends to indicate that they were merely abandoned and forgotten older ammunition.
