Salvadoran Cuscatlan Battalion Recognizes Cultural Holiday
We have a number of nations that help us in the war on terror; one of the nations that have served proudly with us in Iraq has been the nation of El Salvador. The El Salvador nation has a battalion named the Cuscatlan Battalion X rotation, and they recently celebrated their 184th year of the Salvadoran armed forces.
“We are proud to remember our national history and culture,” said Colonel Walter Arevalo. Colonel Avevalo is the Cuscatlan Battalion commander. He also spoke about the civil war that was endured by El Salvador about 15 years ago.
“It is very important that we remember the sacrifice and the contribution that has been made by soldiers that have come before, and not forget what price they have made both for El Salvador and in helping people here in Iraq,” said Colonel Avevalo. A celebration followed including a 5kilometer fun run, a prayer for the unit, and a lying of the wreath celebration. Other activities included a machete fighting and bayonet charge demonstration. There was also some competition between different groups from Coalition partners in sports events.
