Children’s Hospital Completed On Schedule
The new children’s hospital has been completed in Basra after a long construction schedule. The coalition worked first to complete various security issues that maintain the peace and as the security situation continues to improve, attention has turned to rebuilding Iraqi. The Gulf Region South Corps of Engineers has been working on a number of reconstruction and building sites located in Basra and elsewhere in Iraq.
Site reconstruction and site surveys are an important part of the reconstruction of Iraq, and the Coalition has been working hard to assume much of the responsibility for reconstruction. The Iraqi security officials and security forces have worked hard to assume much of the responsibility for security. As the job of maintaining and protecting the Iraqi people transfers to Iraqi Security forces, the job of reconstruction has began to take first priority for Coalition forces. Members of the Army Corps Of Engineers have begun to plan operations and use personnel from the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy to implement them.

The Iraqi citizens are starting to begin to enjoy the new infrastructure that is springing up all around them. Basra is just one example as the security allows new programs and projects to be started. New construction allows new jobs, and the overall situation has grown in positive ways. The coalition leads in the construction but they use Iraqi workmen and craftsmen whenever they can.
