Female Committee Meets In Mahmudiyah
Members of the MNF division Baghdad and the State Department, as well as local citizens and female representatives gathered in Mahmudiyah to discuss issues pertaining to women. The Provincial Reconstruction Team 7, Baghdad helped organize the series of meetings and set up the different committees who met and talked about a number of issues.
The Government of Iraq is slowly starting to face issues that are important to women, and these meetings are a part of that effort. After years of battle and turmoil, the rebuilding of Iraq presses on but many of the issues that support and assist women have not gotten as much attention.
Slowly, that is beginning to change. “We are trying to rebuild a community that has been in a great way severed from its base,” said Captain Trista Mustaine, ePRT womens team group leader.

Part of the meeting goals were to introduce different members of the female support community to each other as well as linking them to their Nahia and other regional organizations. Representatives from the Iraqi Ministry of Labor and Womens Social Affairs and the Iraqi Red Crescent also were in attendance at the meeting.
One of the methods that the ePRT will use to help women is using micro grants, offering in some situations up to $2,500 dollars per person to help women start up businesses.
