Iraqi Security Volunteers Provide Assistance
There have been a large number of weapons discovered in the area of Rashid in recent weeks. As these weapons are discovered, they are turned over to the Coalition for disposal and destruction. Recently an Iraqi citizen led a group of Iraqi Security Volunteers to a large cache of weapons including over 10 mortar tubes and numerous rounds.
The citizen gave a tip also to the Iraqi Security Forces, which led to an even larger cache of weapons. Soldiers from the 4th Infantry division, 1st BCT team found several rocket propelled grenades in the Hadar neighborhood.
These weapons are thought to be some of the final remaining weapons in the region that belonged formerly to terror insurgent cells operating previously in the region.
More and more citizens have been coming forward with weapons and accurate information that has allowed the overall security for the region to continue to improve.
Members of the Iraqi Security forces have been building bridges with citizen groups, and they have been acting in concert to turn out insurgents and terror suspects. Along with members of the Coalition there have been a number of successful arrests, all leading to continued weapons seizures.
