Salvadoran Cuscatlan Soldiers Transport Medical Goods To Al Kut
Each day sees the security situation in Iraq continue to improve. Both coalition soldiers and Iraqi Security forces work together to deal with the needs of the community as the fighting eases. Recently a large amount of medical supplies was requested and then delivered by soldiers from the soldiers of El Salvador Cuscatlan Battalion X.
There is a continued heightened security risk, but the situation on the ground is slowly allowing more humanitarian actions. The coalition team member Cuscatlan Battalion X had been previously working alongside other coalition soldiers to patrol the region near Al Kut, and helped discover a number of weapons cashes. With the easing of battle tensions, more supplies and food have been able to be delivered, and the people have become more accepting of the troop presence in their communities.

“We think it is very important and vital to the overall mission to be a part of the food delivery. We have had a chance to fight, but not as much opportunity until now to help the people out directly with supplies,” said Colonel Walter Arevalo, El Salvadorian Commander if Cuscatlan Battalion X.
Colonel Arevalo and his men have been in the region on deployment since October 2007. This is only the second time they have been able to deliver supplies, but they were very grateful for the opportunity.
