Baghdad- Recently the members of the U.S. Military that are stationed in Iraq in the Baghdad region and throughout Iraq were able to see something you don?t see every day.
Democracy in action.
As the people of Iraq went to the polls, a well laid out system of planning and overwatch went into effect. As worked out between the Iraqi Security Officials and the U.S. Military, different units of U.S. Servicemembers stood by and helped man checkpoints, and to make sure that voting went smoothly.
Members of the U.S. Military sat down for weeks with their Iraqi military counterparts, and reviewed different plans, and even contingency plans in case something did not go as planned. After a lot of planning, and re working the plan when it didn?t look right, all was ready for the election.

The Americans worked behind the scenes, as a support group assisting the plans made by the Iraqi government for free and open elections. With the planning, it was feared that the insurgency might try to strike.
But to no avail. The Insurgency took the day off, and there were no reported attacks.
