Economics On The Increase For Southern Baghdad
The region of Doura has seen its share of battle and combat, but the most recent changes are around economics. The contrast is easy to see, in one area a wall in a two block area of the neighborhood is riddled with bullet holes.
Members of the 4th infantry brigade combat team, 1st infantry division has focused on the Doura region to weed out insurgents. The east side of Doura is on the track for success, and it is seen in the economic revival of the region.
The members of the coalition are proud to be ready to hand off the area to Iraqi Security Services. Citizens are starting to come back to the neighborhood, and people are able to feel safe
The coalition soldiers have worked to make the streets safe, and they have set up checkpoints, and trained members of the Sons of Iraq. Now, the neighborhood is experiencing new businesses, and people are returning to the marketplaces, and visiting the businesses that have been able to rebuild, often with coalition help and assistance.
One of the safest places in the entire region is downtown Doura. People are able to take to the streets, and conduct business in relative safety. The citizens are learning to trust each other, and to trust the soldiers that are ever vigilant to provide their security.
