Service in the United States Military has a number of different advantages. It used to be when you left the military you were in many ways on your own, while there have been VA benefits available for decades, many of the benefits were not well known or Servicemembers often did not avail themselves of the different things that they qualify for. If a person served in the Military they were putting in their time, only to have their lives turned upside down when they left the military. Many people work at a given trade for many years, but when they leave the military they have to find another job or career. This doesn?t make much sense, and the Federal Government and the United States Armed Forces have put their heads together to try and change this.
The creation of a program to give a military Servicemember credit and the ability to use their military talents in the civilian world has been a long time coming. The new programs give the Servicemember vocational credit and have to an advantage when they rejoined the Civilian world. They created the Military Apprenticeship Training program, or USMAPS program. The USMAPS program is one that gives the individual the ability to capitalize on your training and job service. Congress sat down with Senior Officials in each of the five service branches and talked about the elements and priorities that are necessary to have an active and viable program. They agreed a program was needed where Servicemembers could receive credit and support for their vocational efforts that they performed while they were serving on Active Duty Service. They decided to keep the qualifications for the program fairly simple. They decided that as a minimum that a Servicemember has to have a HS diploma, or a GED and have the documentation for the USMAPS program filled out. You have to be performing in a job classification that has been classified on the Apprenticeship USMAPS list. That?s all, and it?s not as difficult as you may think, because many of the jobs in the active duty military are on the list by default.
