Joining the military to enable a person to access funds for their education is one of the main reasons that some people join the US Armed services. A number of years ago Congress decided to set up and design a program where people could join the military for two years on an urgent basis, and then they could qualify for educational funding. Congress listened, and beginning in 2003 they created a program to aid people who wanted to join the military and gain educational benefits, but were not looking for a long term commitment.
Candidates and Army Recruits that are admitted to the program are able to sign up for the Two Year Call to Service Program and eligible to receive on of the following bonuses: a 9,000 dollar educational allowance over one year, a educational allowance of 15,000 dollars over three years. It is called the Two Year Call year service. It?s a National program that is for a two-year enlistment, normally involving about a 15-month commitment after basic training and initial job training. The five active duty branches of the United States Military are not very supportive of the two-year call for service. When it began Congress was very firm that they wanted all five services to offer the program but it would eventually work out to that only the Army really offered the program in any real vibrant or realistic form. There has been a lot of attention given to support of Servicemembers who are in the military, and people that want to join the military but not necessarily for a long term of enlistment. Participants in the national Call to service program cannot as a rule apply or participate in the Montgomery GI bill or its benefits, but if they choose to sign up for an additional period of enlistment that would qualify them for the MGIB. It is a program that is intended to allow people to qualify for certain educational benefits without having to invest a long period of time in the military. Using the two year call to service program a person can access Student loan repayment for up to $18,000 dollars, or a 5,000 dollar bonus after their enlistment and active duty commitment is up. Congress created the program to give people access to different types of educational benefits without a long 4 or 6 year enlistment.

Those that enlist in the Two year call for service program serve out another six years in either the active or inactive programs of the reserve forces. It is also referred to as the National Call to Service program. This is a popular program with Congress and many liberal members of both Senate and the House, but the military branches dislike it because it does not give them Servicemembers for very long periods of usage.
