The US Army pharmacy enlisted specialist is one of the people that helps Servicemembers in obtaining their proper medication. It is up to pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to work together to make sure those soldiers and their families receive the proper medications as prescribed by their doctors in the proper amounts. Some of your responsibilities as a Army Pharmacy specialist can involve mixing different ingredients to assemble a specific prescription medication, measuring or weighing chemicals and drugs, interpreting and reading physician instructions and prescriptions to figure out the amount and type of different substances to prepare.
Training for this position begins with Army Basic Combat Training. After boot camp you will advance to between 12 to 17 weeks of pharmacy specialist training, including both simulated field conditions and classroom training. You will serve as an important part of the Army Medical team, and work under the direction of a licensed pharmacist, and work to assist in dispensing and preparing medicines and drugs in addition to keeping detailed and accurate records and helping maintaining the pharmacy supplies. You will learn regulations and pharmacy laws, the uses and types of drugs and medications, and how to dispense and mix drugs properly. You will assist pharmacy officers in a variety of tasks, working as a helper and at the direction of the pharmacists. You will help issue pharmacy medications, drugs and pharmacy products, and help out in all general activities of the pharmacy. This is a job that requires an ability to work with people, and excellent communications skills. You will be responsible for issuing, controlling and preparing various medications by direction and under supervision of the pharmacist. You have to be able to read and write legibly, and to communicate at length with great accuracy in this job.
