Al-Wahida Agricultural Exposition Successful
There were more than 1500 farmers that attended the recent Exposition in the Al-Wahida area recently. The expo was from the combined efforts of the embedded Provincial Reconstruction Team that is part of the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat team. The goal of the Expo was to help provide initiatives in agriculture along the entire Qada and to help build the long-term local economy, especially in the agricultural district that is located to the east of the city of Baghdad.
Over half of the people in the Mada region are farmers and there is another 15 percent that work in businesses that rely on farm related products, according to Colonel Bud Jameson. Colonel Jameson is the ePRT deputy team leader.
At the Expo the Baghdad ePRT and local Iraqi Farmers that have been helped demonstrated different supplies, methods and technologies that are beneficial to farming in the Iraqi area. The Mada ‘in Qada is an area of fairly arid desert, but some of the technology was also in regards to how to obtain irrigation for their crops.

“The farmers used to be categorized by village, they would all be the same type of farmer in each village, but that has changed,” said Colonel Jameson. “Now some farmers are in to wheat, and another might choose to raise fish, they have different priorities,” said Colonel Jameson.
