Serving in the Army with a large family can be a challenge when your children reach college age. Every parent wishes to see their children able to attend college, fortunately there are some programs that are unique to the US Army to assist Servicemembers and their families. The Army has programs for Servicemembers and their dependents to help fund their education and to obtain a bachelor or associate degree. Many of the services feature programs for their Servicemembers to obtain an education, but the Army is unique in that it offers other programs that some of the other services do not employ.
Education Assistance Program- for overseas Army Spouses, or EAP for short is an educational program for overseas Army Spouses, mostly serving in Asia, Europe, and the Pacific Theater. It is designed as a grant based program to assist with general educational costs, up to $350 dollars per person per term. Stateside Spouse Education Program- It is a support program based on need, and allows support for spouses that are struggling to find other different types of education funding. SEAP programs exist to give help in finding career and occupational training as well as traditional education programs. It is an educational assistance program that is made for Army Spouses of active duty Servicemembers serving in the United States Army. In some cases individuals applying for the SEAP program will qualify for tuition assistance, or money for books, supplies, fees and other educational Costs. There are programs that offer funding for a variety of programs, both in getting an associate degree, a bachelor degree, and in some cases obtaining an advanced degree such as a Masters degree. The Servicemember Opportunity College Degree Programs- It is a family of networked college programs that in addition to funding and education support offer a number of online and Distance Learning programs for Servicemembers and their families to participate in. Each of the SOCAD schools in a region are affiliated with other SOCAD area schools in a family network of schools. It offers financial assistance and referral for college degree programs for Army Servicemembers, their dependents and Spouses. SSEAP- The Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program- Qualified candidates can receive up to $2,900 dollars a year toward their education, and it is awarded for full time attendance at a university, college or vocational training facility It is a program designed for not only active duty Servicemembers and their spouses, but also retired, widowed and other Army personnel who are survivors of Servicemembers who passed away while on active duty. It is a supplemental program designed to help ?fill in the gaps,? left by other educational assistance programs.
