Iraqi Air Force Mount First Solo Planned Air Force Mission
Part of the continued transition to independence for the Nation of Iraq is the success of the Iraqi Air Force, and its beginning military missions. Iraqi Military pilots flew their first mission independently, without the support of American aircraft or pilots.
The first 100 percent Iraqi mission was in support of a mission against insurgents. The insurgents have been cutting power lines and doing damage to various infrastructure and damaging facilities that have been newly repaired.
Various facilities that serve the Iraqi people, as well as private homes were out of power due to the vandalism, so the Iraqi Security Service and the Iraqi Air Force planned their very own response to the issue.
The Iraqi government has a proposed law about staying away from power lines because of this type of terrorist activity. While relatively benign and low level, it has been an activity that has worked to damage the lives of many people.
The Iraqi Air Force is working to keep the power lines and different facilities under aerial surveillance and so far they have been able to arrest a number of different people that are suspected of being the insurgents that damaged the power lines.

The mission is ongoing, and it will be a while before it can be determined exactly who is doing what, but the ability to fly aerial patrols will assist in the overall efforts.
