Navy specialists who work on Gas Turbine engine systems are normally working on equipment used to generate power or energy. This type of equipment is used mostly to generate electrical power to operate other systems and to power the vessel or facility in which the Gas Turbine generating system is located at. You can as a Navy Gas Turbine System Technician potentially work on a surface Navy Fleet Vessel, on a Navy Submarine, or at a land based Navy base or facility.
The amount of power needed for various tasks that the Navy does in pursuit of its Naval mission is awesome; imagine the amount of energy that is necessary to fling a aircraft that weighs 70 thousand pounds into the air off a catapult on board ship. The equipment necessary to generate such large amounts of power is often a gas turbine power generator system.
