General David Petraeus Promoted To Central Command
The surge has been widely successful in Iraq, and there is an overall promotion that has worked to support the leadership in the area. General David Petraeus has been promoted to Central Command, and the person taking over for General Petraeus will be General Odierno.
The change of command has seen a lot of positive progress in the state of conditions in Iraq. Both Defense Secretary Gates and the Joint Chief of Staff, Navy Admiral Mike Mullen attended the change of command ceremony, and both were very pleased with the success of the surge.
Navy Admiral Mullen spoke about how over a year ago in January 2007 that no one would have thought that the security situation in Iraq would be as it is now.
?Now, 18 months later Iraq is a very different place, attacks are at the lowest place they have been for over four years, and 11 provinces out of 18 have been given successfully back to the Government of Iraqi in the security area,? said Admiral Mullen.

The Iraqi Government is successfully providing for their people, the Iraqi Legislature has been elected and is successful, the Iraqi courts of enforcing the rule of law, and there are more and more successful actions being done by the Iraqi Government.
Overall the situation in Iraq has grown and is moving forward successfully.
