The members of the Georgia Army National Guard has now traveled to the European republic of Georgia for participate in the military joint exercises. This is happening despite the tensions in the region between the European state of Georgia and Russia.
A large group from the United States National Guard Georgia Unit went there for the chance to train and interact with soldiers and troops from the European Georgian Republic for the training exercise ?Immediate Response 2008?. It will be the biggest presence of the United States in Asia and Europe since the beginning of the Cold War.
It is a three week military operation, one that will give the military from all the different countries the ability to learn and experience the methods of our allies. The 48th Infantry Brigade, 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment will be part of the exercises and then are slated to deploy to Afghanistan.
Tensions are high in the region, Georgia recalled its ambassador from Russia, and Russian Jets crossed into Georgia?s airspace.
