Iraqi Soldiers Overcome Challenges Of Helicopter Raids
More and more of the Iraqi military are clamoring for Iraqi trained Helicopter aircrews and aircraft, as they learn how to deal with helicopter raids, and find the advantage of being able to swarm down and pounce on suspected insurgent locations via helicopter.
The Iraqi Army has assumed helicopter operations using UH-1 Hueys and Mi-17 Hips, and using both types of helicopters they train their pilots for special operations, including night ops.
The Iraqi Air force has been working hard to heed the advice of their US Air Force advisors, in many areas including schedules. They often will operated at night to avoid the sweltering heat, but they change their schedules of operations frequently and work on staggered schedules so not to be able to be predictable.
There are many different things to learn, and the Iraqi Aircrews study hard with their coalition aircrews that train and qualify them. They are proving to be professional and very competent, but there is a shortage of trained Iraqi pilots and aircrew members, but that is slowly changing.
