Hot Health Care Careers in the Navy

Health care careers are important to all branches of the United States Military. Opportunities in the Navy exist, both behind the scenes and on the front line. Every day, thousands upon thousands of people perform health care related tasks for the Navy. Are you interested in joining them?

At this time, there are nearly 4,000 nurses, 1,200 dentists, and 4,300 doctors working for the Navy. Along with this, they are assisted by more than 2,600 administrative professionals. No matter your role, when you are part of the Navy health care team you are doing what you love while helping your country along the way.

When you get involved with the health care field you will have access to state of the art technology and facilities. Along with this, you will receive on the job training that can be put to good use in the future.

A health care career in the Navy often times leads to the same or a similar position later in life. So, if you want to be a nurse, for example, there is no better place to start than in the Navy.

Featured Navy Health Care Careers

With so many career opportunities in the Navy you have to narrow your options and choose the job specialty that is right for you.

Job opportunities include: doctors, dentists, nurses, specialists, health care administration, health care sciences, clinical care providers, and medical support.

Doctors: as a military doctor your skills will be put to good use, day after day. You can choose from one of 30 specialties to ensure that you are focusing on the area of medicine of most interest to you.

Dentists: choose from 13 specialty areas, and spend your time advancing from one career level to the next.

Nurses: these professionals are among the most important in the Navy. As a member of the health care team you will receive top of the line training with the ability to focus on one of 12 clinical areas.

Specialists: there are 22 different specialties to choose from. Some are behind the scenes positions; others interact with patients.

Health Care Administration: from managing systems to maintaining records, members of this team are essential to the overall well being of the Navy health care field.

Health Care Sciences: are you interested in science and research? If so, this is the field for you. Choose from one of 11 specialties including but not limited to microbiology and physiology, among others.

Clinical Care Providers: From caring for babies to treating the elderly, clinical care providers are a big part of the Navy health care team. Choose from 10 specialties.

Medical Support: from preventative care to surgical assistance, medical support staff is called upon time and time again.

Educational Opportunities for Navy Health Care Careers

No matter if you are interested in attending college or already have a degree the Navy can help you realize your goal of becoming a health care professional. By offering financial assistance, it is easier to complete your education and eventually help the Navy in this growing career field.

As a student, you can focus your time and effort on your education with no obligation to join the Navy until your program is complete. Depending on your situation, you may be eligible for one of the following programs: Navy Health Professions Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP), Navy Health Services Collegiate Program (HSCP), and Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP).

These programs offer financial help such as tuition coverage, monthly salary, and in some cases a sign-on bonus.
