The United States Coast Guard has a need to put its best foot forward in the public eye as well as for the men and women who serve. This is why there is a Public affairs office for the USCG. This department is responsible for all forms of media and for reporting in all different manners. By working as a Public Affairs Specialist you will be helping to tell the story of the men and women of the United States Coast Guard.
Training
The first step in becoming a USCG Public Affairs Specialist is to go through training. You will go through a 12 week training program which is intensive by design. You will learn the overall aspects of how to properly capture and tell the story of the men and women of the USCG. You will then be able to study further the subtleties of the many different areas of specialty which fall under the umbrella of the title Public Affairs Specialist.

Qualifications
In order to work as a USCG public affairs specialist you will have to possess certain skills and characteristics. These include the ability to communicate effectively using clearn and concise speech and writing. If you excel in English, speech, web design, journalism, typing or photography, this is the job for you.
You will be expected to do your job in a number of different forms of media as well as in a number of different situations. You should be able to maintain composure even under extremely difficult circumstances.
