Six Ton Truck Loaded With Weapons Discovered In Al Qasim
Coalition forces recently discovered a huge cache of weapons in joint patrols with Iraqi security forces. While on patrol in Al Qasim a local citizen approached the joint patrol, and told them about a large amount of explosives that were located nearby. After investigating the patrol was stunned to find the stash, it is the largest single cache found in that region of Iraq so far.
The cache was loaded in a six-ton truck, and contained more than 1000 EFP explosive components, and over 3000 pounds of explosives. Along with this, there was 45 Katusha 107mm rockets and rocket stands, ten 60 mm mortar rounds, 250 rounds of PKC style, and various other guns and ammunition.
“The Iraqi Security Forces have really gotten good at turning loyal citizens into excellent informants, and the constant positive flow of information is allowing us to secure large amounts of weapons,” said Captain Michael Ranado. Captain Ranado is battle Captain for 31st MTT, 4th Brigade, and 3rd Infantry.
Caches of weapons are discovered regularly, but a cache of this size stunned the soldiers that came across it. It is the single largest cache of weapons found in the region so far, and it shows that there are a lot of weapons still out there. Coalition forces are working to continue uncovering illegal weapons, and when they are discovered they are gathered together and destroyed.
