The United States National Guard operates in countries around the world. This means encountering people which do not speak English as their first language if they speak English at all. Being able to communicate with those the US National Guard encounters is highly important to the success of the overall mission in the country. This is why the job of the US National Guard Cryptologic Linguist is so important.
What You Will Do
You will be asked to fill many different roles when you work in this position. You will be asked to listen in on communication as well as to pay attention to the local media. You will also be asked to interrogate prisoners and deserters. You will put your skills to use in order to make sure that the original meaning of what is being said will be translated into English so that the information can be analyzed and used.

Get the Training
Those with specific language skills will be given preference because they will be able to get started working right away. Those who are not fluent in the necessary languages, but have proficiency for learning languages will be trained to speak in the needed languages. You will also go through training to understand hand-to-hand combat, interrogation techniques, espionage and more.
