Important Mission as a USAF Special Operations Weather Apprentice

September 12, 2010 By admin

There are many different missions which are completed every year by the United States Air Force Special Operations units. These missions take place in extreme conditions and under extreme circumstances. Either the mission must remain covert because it is a matter of national security or it is because if the mission is made public, it will jeopardize the lives of the men involved in the mission. Completion of the mission takes into factor many different elements including the weather.

On the Spot Weather Reports

When running a covert operation, radio silence is normal. This makes it impossible to simply ask for the weather report. Instead, you need to have someone in the unit who can determine what the weather in the immediate area will be. This is done through many different means and can make the difference between one set of plans and another. As a SpecOP Weather Apprentice, you will help to determine the weather for your mission.

Intense Job

When you work as a SpecOp Weather Apprentice, you will go through intense training because the work you will do will also be intense. You will be expected to make complicated decisions under extreme duress. You are also expected to be able to protect yourself and the rest of the unit at all times. Because of the intense nature of the assignments, it is still felt by the Navy that this is not an environment for women.
