Law enforcement is more in demand today that it has ever been. Civilian and military police jobs continue to increase as political and military conflicts, natural disasters and economic woes cause more and more people to “behave badly.” Statistically, there are general rules of thumb that indicate how many criminals there will be in any given population, but the increased stresses of today’s society pushes those numbers off the charts.
Your career in the Military Police will make you a highly marketable and well-respected professional. Training is rigorous and all-inclusive. The range of positions is nearly limitless as the military police go wherever they are needed and do whatever needs to be done to ensure laws are obeyed and people are safe. Military police personnel, or MPs, are responsible for law enforcement, rescue missions and security management.
Military Police Fulfill Their Mission
The mission for members of the military police changes on a daily basis. As an MP, you will wear the uniform of one of the most respected and versatile professions within the U.S. military. Criminal investigations, combat route reconnaissance, area security operations and police intelligence operations are just a few of the “normal” jobs performed by MPs. MPs are also responsible for search and rescue operations, they ensure supply route security, conduct raids and regular patrols, all while maintaining security and discipline at all military installations.
Your career as an MP may take you into the fascinating world of police investigations, military police dog, or K9 MP training, civilian police training or prisoner management as you enforce the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), federal and state laws and the regulations of your installation. MPs are often the first ones to arrive in natural disaster situations, providing security, law enforcement, supply management and stability throughout the emergency.
MP Training Provides A Wealth Of Skills
Frightened, angry and panicking people are dangerous. As an MP, you will learn about crowd control, violence and riot diffusion, area security, supply management and protection, legal and investigative procedures and policies, as well as restraining, searching and transporting prisoners. Additionally, you will learn how to use the M9, 9 mm pistol, the 12 gauge shotgun, the M4 Carbine and the M203 grenade launcher. As a team leader, you will be trained how to use the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW). You will also gain skills in hand-to-hand combat and take-down techniques.
Military units and society in general rely heavily upon police forces to protect both person and property. There are many areas of specialized training available to MPs, such as forensics, top secret document management and protection and special operations. Clearly, your job as an MP can take you in many different directions as you work to ensure the safety and protection of your unit and society.
The Military Family Takes Care Of Their Own
Your job as an MP makes you a highly respected and effective member of the military family. In addition to worldclass training, you will receive housing, full benefits and one of the best retirement packages available anywhere. Duty stations around the world offer you everything you need to provide for your family: shopping, medical facilities, educational and entertainment options, all within the private world of the U.S. military.
The skills you gain as an MP are highly transferrable to the civilian world. Attention to detail, mission realization, personal integrity and the confidence that only comes from knowing you are skilled and respected will provide you and your family with a lifelong career that makes life better for everyone.
