Coalition Has Gone Into Final States Of Operations
The amount of violence in Iraq has dipped by 80 percent, and the future of US withdrawal will continue, says Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates.
?We have now entered the endgame of our overall Iraqi involvement, and in the months ahead our actions will continue to be critical to the national stability and security in the years to come,? said Secretary Gates.
Successes in Iraq have led to the reductions of casualties for the Iraqi Security Forces, and for coalition and US Forces. The handover of the province of Anbar has served to illustrate the ongoing success of coalition and US efforts in Iraq.
Anbar is the 11th of the 18th provinces that has been given over to the control of the Iraqi Forces, and it has so far been successful.
The province of Anbar was once a hotbed of the Sunni insurgency and the scene of some of the most violent fighting, but now is one of the safest provinces. It has served as a positive symbol for the Iraqi people, and an example of the overall success on the Iraqi War on Terror.
