U.S. Forces Meet With Locals To Reestablish Infrastructure
Camp Striker, Iraq
Local Iraqi Community leaders, members of Iraqi Security Forces, Iraqi Army Members, and Members of U.S. Coalition Forces all met recently to talk about the future of Iraq Security.
Nearly one thousand leaders gathered at the site, home of local leader Abid Hassan Saloom, located in Sadr Yasufiyah. The theme of their gathering was “Lets Put Law Back into place in Iraq”, and was well received by the officials gathered.
Ahmed Chalabi, formerly Iraqi National Congress leader, Sheik Halal Al Hemdawni, Sheik Somar, Iraqi Council President Yusufiayah Nahia, Iraqi Army 4th Brigade Commander Brig. General Ali Jassim Mohammed Hassen Al-Frejee, and other members of the Mahmudiayah Council gathered for the meeting.
Members of U.S. and Coalition Forces provided security and acted as advisors for the meeting. It was successful in that it allowed many members of the Iraqi Government to meet together openly and discuss the future of the Iraqi people. In the past, without the security provided by U.S. and Coalition Forces it would not have been safe for this type of meeting.
Insurgents have targeted both individuals and groups for terrorist bombing. With the Coalition security, this was not an issue.
”The meeting today was a forum for all the local leaders to work together, and to interact, something that has not been possible before today” said Captain Ryan Bulger, U.S. Forces. Captain Bulger is intelligence officer for First Battalion, Eighteenth Infantry Regiment, and 3rd Brigade Combat Team. 101st Airborne Air Assault.
The Air Assault team of Captain Bulger was the main security detachment for the event.
