Military Academy Training Completed By 200 Cadets
There were more than 200 new military officers that have now completed training at the Al Rustamiyah military academy. The new officers are graduates of the year long military leadership development course that is now mandatory for members of the Iraqi officer corps.
The military academy focuses on specific advanced military skills that the different graduates will have an additional opportunity to master in the field. The overall quality of the military officers that have been graduating has risen, both in caliber of applicants and the overall educational level of the newest Iraqi military officers.
The military academy is designed based on a similar style of military academy based in the United Kingdom. The British example is one that the coalition has used to help establish the Iraqi military leadership. The instruction course is one that has seen battle testing, and it is done on a NATO based example of training.
The course used to be three years in length, when Saddam was in power, but the coalition has worked to shorten the course to just over one year and make is more closely modeled on the British model.
