Michigan National Guard Assist Police Build Up
Its one thing to build and improve security in a region or in a country. Its another thing entirely to have a situation where security and safety is maintained, for the long term. The security situation in Iraq has began to settle into the long term, and the Iraqi Security Forces are doing an excellent job in maintaining things in the long term.
One method to maintain security is by making sure there is a trained and professional Police force in place. At first the majority of the Iraqi Security Forces were made up of the members of the Iraqi Army, who have done a great job.
But as time has progressed, the Coalition soldiers from the Michigan National Guard 46th Military Police have worked to train hundreds of members of the Iraqi Police. As policemen have been trained, and transitioned into the local security forces, the Iraqi Army and National military have been able to work toward assuming more and more of the national security.
Its been a win -win situation, and the good news is the day when the coalition is able to return to the United States and their countries of origin knowing that the situation in Iraq is safe and secure.
