Do you hope to go to college one day? Buy a home? If these are two things you want to accomplish in your future, the joining the military may provide you with an avenue to accomplish these two goals.
GI Bill
The GI Bill is a benefit that is available to anyone who joins the United States Military, no matter what branch of the service you join. Starting in August 2009, the new Post 9/11 GI Bill provides tuition assistance for you to pursue a college degree, plus a housing stipend and a yearly stipend for books and supplies. In addition to tuition assistance, the United States Military provides a tutorial assistance stipend to help you succeed with your studies.
VA Housing Loans
United States veterans are eligible for VA housing loans. VA housing loans are guaranteed by the Federal Housing Authority and allow veterans to purchase a home with no down payment requirements. Since VA housing loans are guaranteed by the United States government, individuals with access to this special housing loan are often granted loans much more easily than the average person applying for a standard loan to purchase a house. Additionally, given the current state of the real estate market, home buyers with VA housing loan access are often given preference compared to the standard home buyer.
