Nine Other Terror Suspects Killed In Raid
Mosul, Iraq- United States Coalition Forces working jointly with Iraqi Army forces conducted a series of raids over the last several days, resulting in the arrest of eight insurgents. In fierce fighting in the same raid of an Al Qaeda terrorist cell, nine suspected insurgents were killed.
There was no loss of life by coalition forces, but three brave Iraqi Army soldiers were killed in the fighting. This was a successful raid against several areas in Northern Iraq, where an Al Qaeda cell was known to be operating.
U.S. Army Special forces soldiers backed up the Iraqi Tal Afar SWAT team, and they worked jointly to target a particular cell known to be wreaking roadside bomb attacks in the Nineveh area. This same cell was also known to be responsible for several assassinations. During the raid various munitions including IED devices, explosives and rockets were found which also leads forces to believe that the cell was more active than previously expected
This was a raid that was intended to secure the area around Nineveh province, and has appeared to be successful in doing that. The cell and the area of the raid were occupying a fall back position, where Al Qaeda members previously based in Baghdad and elsewhere had come after being driven out by Coalition and Iraqi Army gains.
“This raid demonstrated the commitment of the Iraqi Army and Iraqi Police to restore peace and security, they are working to target foreign fighters and terrorists, and showing their proficiency to the Iraqi people at large,” said Lieutenant Colonel Robert Molinari. Colonel Molinari is the Operations officer for 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment.
