Paratroopers Succeed In Capturing Terror Suspects
One of the best things about the surge by the Coalition in 2007 has been the ability to apprehend insurgents and criminals. With more boots on the ground, the access and response times have increased to the point that there is virtually no real organized insurgency left, but rather a number of different cells of scattered insurgency.
The soldiers and paratroopers of 2nd Battalion, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team have intercepted a insurgent mortar team and seized a large level of explosives.
The amount of mortar supplies and equipment, along with nearly 200 pounds of explosives led to the arrest and capture of 7 suspected insurgents.
Members of Bravo Battery arrived at the scene in time to observe the 7 individuals running away, and immediately pursued and arrested the suspected insurgents. The weapons and explosives that were retrieved is more than enough to charge the individuals with suspected terrorist activities, and the weapons will no longer be a threat against the ISF forces and the coalition.
There were a number of AK 47 rifles, as well as several ready made IED explosive devices. All of the weapons and explosives were taken by the coalition and turned over to a coalition EOD unit for destruction.
At the request of the Iraqi Government, the joint patrols in the area will continue, and security plans are expected to continue to add protection.
