25 Former Inmates Released To Supervision Of Local Sheik
The local Sheik of the Janabi Tribe has accepted responsibility for 25 former detainees. After serving their sentences and passion an intense round of interviews, there were 25 detainees released March 28th.
“Almost all of the people who were acting out and acting wrong have renounced their ways. We have to show forgiveness and allow these men the chance to prove themselves,” said Sheikh Sahab.
The Sheikh is well regarded by the soldiers in the Jurf As Sahkr region; he meets regularly with soldiers from Patrol Base Jurf, and is a large supporter in the local region for Coalition efforts
Captain Eric Tisland is the commander for Company A, 3rd battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 4th BCT, 3rd Infantry. He was one of the officials that have said he will welcome back the paroled men and give them a chance.
“In the last several months there has been a dramatic decline in the violence here in the Jurf region, and it’s largely due to the actions of Sons of Iraq,” said Captain Tisland.
“We all felt this was a difficult area to be in a year ago, no one, not us, not the coalition knew who the good guys were and who were the bad guys,” said Sheikh Sabah.

Other detainees were also released in nearby areas, eight detainees were released in Al Hak, Iraq, and eight detainees were released over at Joint Security Station Haswah.
