North Iraq Leaders Meet At COB Spiecher In Salahuddin Province
The leaders and members of the local and national Iraqi Government met together recently in a conference held at Contingency Operating Base Spiecher in Salahuddin province. The local sheikhs, representatives and Iraqi officials all met in the north Iraqi province to discuss the distribution of electricity, along with ways to improve the generation, transmission and overall ability of the electrical supply system in the region. All of the four northern provinces, Diyala, Salahuddin, Ninevah and Tamin were represented at the conference with official delegates, and they all seemed to benefit from the chance to meet and discuss electrical and other issues concerning the region.
There were also representatives from three other Kurkish provinces that attended the meeting, Dahuk, Irbill and Salaimaniyah. The Iraqi area Military Leaders and the Iraqi Minister of Electricity were all in attendance also, and part of the discussion focused on the awareness of different energy and electrical issues that face the region, and how best to solve some of the continuing problems with electricity that the northern area of Iraq face.
Iraqi Major General Salahadin Kamel el-Qradq is the 4th Iraqi Army Division Commander, and he addressed the conference about the ability and capabilities of the 4th Iraqi Army serving in the region, and different security issues that face the Iraqi electric generation plants.
“Things are improving, people are talking and beginning to work out their own problems,” said
US Army Lieutenant Colonel Butch Graham, division engineer the MNF region. Colonel Graham is also commander for Task Force Iron.
Part of the biggest improvement is the motivation and leadership that members of the Iraqi leadership are beginning to exhibit. Iraqi leaders are beginning to learn to troubleshoot and solve many of the regional problems on their own.
