Staten Island Organization Supports Packages To Soldiers
Determined to get into the Holiday Spirit, a borough in New York City is choosing to support the Troops in an impressive way.
Project Homefront, located in Staten Island, has come up with an innovative mail plan. The group has set up a “Postage Due” account plan for anyone wishing to send items to the military.
“We focus on the effort to send things to our military,” said John T. Semich. “We give support to families by giving postage to send items to combat areas overseas” said Semich.
Volunteers staff the project and they assist by gathering and packing special items and sending them to Service Members. Items such as camp showers, metal detectors, food items or camp showers are some of the requested items shipped.
“Our mailing is about every six weeks to the Soldiers we have registered with our program” stated Semich. “Local Residents of Staten Island can mail to the troops out at any time” added Semich. The program covers such postage from Staten Island residents to troops overseas.
The project is part of “America Supports You” and was started by an attorney, and three individual veterans, and has grown to include a great number of military families and individuals.
“We get new members all the times, and spouse and Service Member families are welcome to join” said Semich. “We also help support families of Marines, Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors and Coast Guardsmen who are deployed if the requests are something we can do,” said Semich.
