The status of the weather and the conditions of the ocean are very important in the everyday operations of the United States Marine Corps. Severe weather or improper ocean conditions can hinder or prevent certain missions from taking place. It is about doing what is best for the mission and the personnel. This is why the job of the METOC analyst forecaster is such an important one in the USMC.
What You Will Do
When you work as a METOC analyst forecaster in the USMC, you will be in charge of making sure that those that need the information will be provided an accurate assessment of the weather and environmental conditions. You will also be in charge of maintaining all of the different pieces of machinery which you will be using in order to get the METOC information that you are looking for. As you get more responsibility, you will also be asked to maintain certain web pages, databases and network communications.

Get the Training
You will have to first be able to attain a top secret security clearance to be qualified to enter this position. You will then have to go through the training course for Meteorology and Oceanography analyst/forecaster. You can also get a bachelor degree in meteorology from any accredited college prior to enlisting in the US Marine Corps. You will also have to go through standard boot camp procedures to provide you with military readiness should you need it.
